Postcards from Azeroth – Shattrath City

Shattrath City is the major city of Outland, the broken remains of the world of Draenor. It is home to the many refugees of the internecine war against the forces of the Burning Legion.

Despite the city being in a state of ruin, it is well populated with people from all races — orc, arakkoa, draenei, blood elf and a few humans make it their home. It is ‘ruled’, if one may use that word, by the light beings known as the Naaru. A’dal, the leader, can be found in the central structure of the city.

Players who take the quest City of Light from Khadgar, who stands near A’dal, will follow his Servant around the city, and learn of Shattrath’s history. This quest takes about eight minutes, and one must not lag behind too much, or the Servant will disappear, and one will have to repeat the tour.

The city is divided into several sections. The highest of these is Aldor Rise, home to the draenei faction known as the Aldor.¬†They are diametrically opposed to the blood elf Scryers, who occupy the Scryer’s Tier to the southeast. If one wishes to embark on the attunement quests for the Black Temple raid, it is required to align oneself with either faction; they have outposts in Shadowmoon Valley where one may pick up the starting quest for the attunement.

The Lower City is where the most of the refugees reside. Many vendors and some trainers can be found around the southeast section, as can the pet tamer Morulu. The con artist Griftah is also here, trying to make an ‘honest’ living.

Moving around anticlockwise, one will find the orphanage, where one will obtain a draenei or blood elf child for Children’s Week, then the World’s End Tavern. One may find a high elf woman here allied with the Keepers of Time; she will teleport a player to the Caverns of Time upon request (at Revered). Every three hours one may also witness the Elite Tauren Chieftain performing their tired hit ‘Power of the Horde’, after a warm-up act by Perry Gatner. Even further around one will find the arrakoa area.

In the central structure, one will find class trainers, portals to the Isle of Quel’Danas, Orgrimmar and Stormwind, and the Archmage Khadgar. Directly beneath the naaru A’dal, one will see a scale model of the Sunwell Plateau, the level 70 raid instance which one will find upon the Isle. During the Burning Crusade Timewalking event, one will find the event’s vendor on the upper tier.

To the east, on the ring encircling the central structure, one will find the flight master. On either side are quest givers for the Shattered Sun Offensive and the Sha’tari Skyguard. The former is an alliance between the Scryers and Aldor to take back the Isle of Quel’Danas from Kael’thas Sunstrider’s forces.
