Tiny Terrors – Defiled Earth
Hello, everyone! I hope you’re all gearing up for Legion!
This month we’re covering one of the Tiny Terrors of Tanaan Jungle, Defiled Earth.
While this strategy doesn’t work 100% of the time, it is typically a winner. One of the catches for the Tiny Terrors is that their backline pets are “random”. It appears that each week each server gets its own set of backline pets for the Terrors. In addition to that, there’s another variable to account for, and that is the backline pets’ move sets. It seems that those vary between two sets. The most recent pair of backline pets that I encountered on Defiled Earth had one set of moves that was consistently killing me, while the second set I was able to overcome.
Basically, all of the above just means don’t get frustrated. These guys are boss pets for a reason, and sometimes it does take a few tries to knock them out. The howl bomb strategy lulled everyone into a false sense of security with it’s almost laughable hard hitting move combination. Now that that is gone with the Pre-patch for Legion as of today, it’s time to put on our thinking caps and use actual strategies for these guys.
That said, I would absolutely love any feedback you have on this strategy, tips on what you think might make it better, what sort of backline pets you encountered on your servers, or tips on beating the other Terrors without the Howl Bomb. You can let me know via the A3 blog forums or on Twitter @A3pets. So without further ado, here’s my breakdown of this fella.
My Team | |||
Pet | Ability 1 | Ability 2 | Ability 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Fiendish Imp S/S | Burn | Immolation | Nether Gate |
Pandaren Water Spirit H/S | Water Jet | Whirlpool | Dive |
Toothy P/S | Rip | Surge | Blood in the Water |
Defiled Earth’s Team | |||
Pet | Ability 1 | Ability 2 | Ability 3 |
---|---|---|---|
Defiled Earth B/B | Fel Corruption | Stone Rush | Quake |
Fen Crab H/H | Claw | Spiny Carapace | Dive |
Cerulean Moth H/S | Reckless Strike | Cocoon Strike | Moth Dust |
This is a team where breeds (at least for the Fiendish Imp) do absolutely matter. If your pet is not faster than the Defiled Earth, then he will be able to get his Fel Corruption move off, and thus buff his team to do more damage whilst taking less. You can use any of the Crocolisks since they all have the same moves; I chose Toothy because he is a power/speed pet, so he’s got a slight speed bonus, and hits a little harder (which is super helpful).
The very neat part of this strategy is you swap out Defiled Earth and deal with those backline pets first without them having that Fel Corruption buff. One thing you have to be careful about is making sure your Nether Gate ability is ready to use when the first backline pet dies. If it is still on cooldown when the Defiled Earth swaps back in, he’ll get his Fel Corruption off, and the second backline pet will be harder to beat. If the Nether Gate ability seems like it might not be off cooldown in time (ie pay attention to the enemy pet’s health, and if you’re close to killing it), you can stall by reapplying Immolation instead of attacking; this will eat up a round (or two, if needed), giving the Nether Gate time to come available.
The other thing to remember is that Immolation can do damage from the back row, so once you’ve taken care of the backline pets and the Defiled Earth is all that’s left, put your imp in the back and swap in your Pandaren Water Spirit so that you can get a few more ticks of Immolation off before your Imp dies to Quake. One last thing to note is that the Pandaren Water Spirit’s abilities’ order will change in Legion. As long as you make sure you have Dive and Whirpool selected, you’re good to go. Also, remember that you most likely will encounter different backline pets than I did, so be sure to pay attention to what you have and what moves you’re facing.

Thanks are due to Xu-Fu’s Pet Battle Strategies for the idea of swapping in the backline pets, and to Wakamaru for helping me out a ton on this strat.
