Postcards from Azeroth – Water and Explosions

Water & Explosions

With the launch of Cataclysm, two unique quest achievements were added to the game in low-level areas, one for each faction. Both involve seeming suicide

In northern Darkshore, just south of Lor’danel, is the Maw of the Void, a large whirlpool in the Cliffspring River. Players can jump into it, and be transported to the Bashal’Aran Collapse. This will result in them falling a considerable way, earning them earning Going Down? if they have not already got it. Inside, they will find a short slope leading upwards, with two Forlorn Highborne spirits wandering about. At the top is a night elf demon hunter, Telarius Voidstrider. Killing him drops an item that starts Writings of the Void. To get out of the Collapse, players talk to Bielara Ivyshroud, kneeling by the water. She will teleport the player to a cave overlooking the Maw. Turning the quest in to Ranger Glynda Nal’Shea will grantGhosts in the Dark.

Visitors to Azshara will have noticed the long track of metal plates winding its way around the zone. Built by the goblins, this rocketway is the source for the other acheivement. For a low-level player, the easiest way to proceed is to run north from Orgrimmar to the Orgrimmar Rocket Exchange. Talking to the Bilgewater Rocket-jockey will open a dialogue from which one can choose one of four destinations, which change depending on the player’s current location. Choosing either of the Terminus options will transport to the player to that end of the rocketway — the Southern one is the nearest one. Once there, initiating a trip to the other Terminus will start the player on a hazardous, explosive journey around the zone. Reaching the end safely will award the achievement Joy Ride. Players of about level 17 or lower may find themselves almost immediately attacked by a Mistwing Ravager, so should be prepared to attack if necessary.

Note: there are flight masters at both ends of the rocketway.
