Editor’s Note: This year the Snowy Owl will stop spawning on March 20th.

With winter and Christmas we, of course, end up with the appearance of the Snowy Owl. One of the wild pets required for Kalimdor Safari and the meta achievement World Safari, it is available only during the winter months, starting with the winter solstice on December 21st. When it spawns, this pet can be found in the Winterspring zone.

Missing out on this pet means you end up waiting an entire year just for another chance to complete your safari achievement. You will often find, however, that the best time for farming the pet will be sometime during the middle of the winter period. Everyone who missed out last year will have rushed to get their pet, and you won’t have to deal with the last minute rush of everyone who has been putting off farming the pet.

If you’re looking to get the best breed of snowy owl, at 322 speed the S/B breed might not have the speed of some of the faster fliers, but is certainly capable of going first in a decent number of fights.

While this pet could potentially be used as a sweeper in a darkness team with its Nocturnal Strike, its strength lies more in its multi-hit capabilities. Cyclone is an ability capable of hitting your opponent’s backline pets. While the chance of hitting is very low, the ability itself can have a constant up-time, lasting five rounds and having a five round cooldown. Quills, on the other hand, is a multiple hit attack with an additional attack if your pet goes first. Predatory Strike is a single large strike, but will deal double damage if the opposing pet has less than 25% health so makes for a highly useful finishing move after you’ve chipped away at the opposing pet’s health with your other attacks.

If this is not your preferred play-style there is also Peck, a medium-power single attack, and Shriek, a lower powered attack that reduces the amount of damage your opponent can do by 25% for three rounds.
