A Firm Reminder About Member Conduct

Hello A3ers!

It has recently been brought to our attention that unacceptable comments may have been made from one member to another in one of our guilds and we wanted to briefly address this type of behavior. Without going into detail about the parties involved… Under no circumstances is it ever acceptable for any A3 member to tell another member (or anyone else for that matter) that they “should be kicked from the guild/community” because the state of their pet collection or pet collection efforts (achievements/milestones) does not measure up to what you consider “acceptable”.

We have a wide range of members here at A3. We all vary on what we choose to take from pet collecting, how we collect our pets, how serious we are about our collections and what we do with collecting. Not everyone is going to collect in the same way, have the same collection goals, or feel that their pets should be used in the same ways. Some of us still collect the way we did before pet battles were around, some of us want every single pet or achievement available, some of us feel that if you don’t participate in P-PvP you are missing the point of pet battles. We all have different play styles with our pets, prefer different rotations, different breeds and like different move combinations. No one person is ever going to agree on the “correct” steps to being a pet collector because there is no such thing. The correct way to be a pet collector is to collect in a way that makes you and only you happy.

In addition to that, just because someone hasn’t checked off certain milestones in their collection doesn’t meant that they won’t or that they aren’t working toward it. We’re all at different levels with our collections. Some of us are brand new, some of us race through everything, others prefer to slowly meander through, and some of us are pretty much stuck with our collection progress. If everyone was at the same place with their collection this project wouldn’t exist because there would be no one to help.

With that in mind, I’d like to cover a few things… If you encounter someone spurting rude or hurtful comments toward you or another A3 member we’d like you to follow a few steps (as mentioned in our Code of Conduct). First – don’t let it upset you. If someone has nothing better to do with their time than be a jerk then they aren’t worth the effort it takes to be upset. Second – take a screenshot of the comments being made. Third – contact a team member right away, preferably Wakamaru. Let them know what you’ve encountered, your thoughts on the matter (if you want), and provide them with the screenshot(s). When these steps are taken it makes it a lot easier to handle the situation. If Wakamaru or the team member you choose to contact (the message ultimately goes to Wakamaru) is not online at the time, send them the message via private message on the forum.

In some cases we may issue warnings, in others we may outright remove the member. Regardless of the action we decide to take, though, we need to be made aware when things like this happen in our community so that we can put a stop to it. Ignoring it and letting the behavior fester is only going to make it worse for you or anyone else who encounters it.

This is a community that is built around the concept of charity and helping one another and we want to promote a kind and positive atmosphere within it. If you are an elitist-type person who feels the need to talk down to other members for any reason, then you don’t belong here. If you are having a bad day, don’t take it out on someone else. Even if you are saying something harsh in jest, remember that it’s likely not going to translate well in text. These types of comments and behaviors are completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

One last note… Never feel like you are causing drama or creating work for the team if you choose to speak up about something like this. This is as much your community as it is ours and we do not want this type of behavior here. Many of us on the team have drastically different schedules so we may very well miss behavior like this and we need someone to bring it to our attention in order to fix it.
