Newsletter October 3: Let's All Help!

Post by piwakawaka » October 3rd, 2016, 3:34 am

October 2016
Year 2, Issue 39

Hello, Readers.
With everyone getting settled into Legion it pays to stop and take the time to say a few things. First of all, to all our new members, welcome, and to those of you returning after the end-of-expansion hiatus, welcome back.

Secondly, to everyone searching and working towards collecting or improving on their wild pets, make sure you check out our Wild Pet Capture Service. If you're struggling to find a specific breed, rarity or type of pet, we have people willing to help you out. Make sure you check out the full details, as even a little help, especially when you're starting out, can go a long way.

We have also had more than a few people helped out through our Discord server. Whether it's a shout-out about finding a Dream Whelpling group, or holding a rare pet for someone who can use it, more than a few of our frequent talkers and lurkers have been helped thanks in no small part to our members' desire to help each other.

We hope that those of you who participated enjoyed the challenge game. Thank you for your participation.
Wild Pet Capture Service
Above all else... A3 loves collecting pets! Collection doesn't just stop at pets that can be traded and adopted though - there are a few worlds' worth of wild pets out there waiting for collectors, too! A few of us would like to offer our love of hunting wild pets to A3 members to help them also round out their wild pet needs.

Each week (sometimes a few times each week!) we will comb zones to help members find the wild pets they are still after. We will turn a zone upside-down and inside-out looking for your pet(s) and message you once we've found them. You will then come and capture it! If you would like to take advantage of this service, but aren't available during our typical times, please don't hesitate to contact us and ask about alternative days and times.

Pet Suppliers
Do you want to help supply pets for adoption that A3 needs? We have a Pet Suppliers thread where members can sign up to sponsor certain pets they are willing to supply. When the supply of certain pets starts to run low or we have an upcoming project where we’ll need more of a certain pet – we’ll send out a notification about that pet to our suppliers! There is no guess work and no 24/7 farming because we’ll let you know when we’re in need of the pets.

There are no quotas to meet when supplying the pets that you signed up for. You can provide whatever amount you are comfortable with.

New Legion supply options were added on September 16th and new post-Legion options were added on September 26th.

For more information about the Pet Supplier project click here.

  • Please remember to check what pets you have before submitting requests! Add-ons don't always display things accurately.
  • Please remember to report your request list if you acquire a pet you have requested. We've modified our system so that even if your post has already been flagged you can still report and make changes.

Connect to Twitch to Earn a World of Warcraft Title
Show your love of WoW Arena and esports with a shiny new in-game title*, “Patron of War” when you connect Twitch to your Battle.net account and watch the European and American Regional Championships.

How to Link Your Accounts
  • Log in or create an account on Twitch.
  • Navigate to the Settings menu by clicking your account name in the top-right corner of the home screen.
  • Navigate to the Connections tab of the Settings menu.

You'll be able to earn the Patron of War title by watching the the European Regionals September 30 to Sunday, October 2 or the North American Regionals on October 8 and 9. FEEDBACK: Karazhan!
The new Karazhan dungeon is now open for testing on the PTR! It will remain open over the weekend. This is a Mythic-only dungeon, so form a group of 5 players and venture to Deadwind Pass. The entrance to the new dungeon is on the side of the tower, accessed via an elevated bridge (the front door will still take you into the Burning Crusade raid). Player item level will be normalized inside the dungeon for testing purposes.

Please use this thread for your feedback; thanks for testing!

Recent Warden Tower Changes
As many players have noticed, we’ve been iterating somewhat rapidly on the rewards and cadence of the Warden Tower PvP World Quests. We wanted to take a moment to explain what’s happening, and why we’ve been tinkering with them so much.

Our goal for Warden Towers is that they should feel fun and rewarding, but still secondary to Arenas and Battlegrounds as an overall source of Honor. When Legion first launched, they were certainly lucrative, but so frequent that many players were earning the vast majority of their Honor by completing them. We tried to correct this by increasing the time it took for them to refresh, and reducing the amount of Honor they gave, but that brought us to the other extreme – they were no longer a primary source of Honor, but they didn’t feel rewarding enough for the time investment.

With the latest updates, we’ve increased the Honor rewarded for completing a Warden Tower back to 300, but they will only re-activate once every 24 hours. This means you should once again feel that completing one is worth your time, but you’ll still need to look to Arenas and Battlegrounds for the majority of your Honor. Warden Towers should now be properly filling their intended role in end-game PvP progression.

Rated PvP Gearing
As we’d previously announced, our intention with gear rewarded from rated PvP in Patch 7.0.3 is for the chance to receive a Warforged/Titanforged piece of gear to increase as your rating increases. We’ve recently discovered a bug that is causing that system not to function. Currently, rated PvP is always rewarding item level 840 gear, regardless of rating. That is not our intent.

We’re currently working on a fix for this issue, and once it’s ready, we’ll apply it during weekly restarts. We want to correct it as quickly as possible, but don’t want to inadvertently punish players who have already collected their weekly bonus chests. We’re also implementing more rigorous testing procedures for future PvP seasons to ensure that this doesn’t happen again.

Realistically, we should have caught this bug during testing, but didn’t. That’s completely our fault, and we apologize. That said, we’re not really happy with the current model for PvP gearing anyway (even ignoring this issue), and we’re planning to make a couple of key changes for Patch 7.1.

For starters, instead of having rating increase the chance for a piece to roll Warforged or Titanforged, it will increase the minimum item level that a piece can be. So, as your rating increases, you will be guaranteed to earn higher item level gear, regardless of whether it Warforges or not. We’re also going to clearly tell you what the minimum item level you can receive is, to remove the guesswork.

Secondly, instead of basing gear off of your current rating, it will be based on the highest rating you earned in the previous week. This means you’ll always be rewarded for your best performance of the week, no matter when exactly that was.

Again, we apologize that we didn’t recognize and correct the issue with the current gearing system sooner, but are hopeful that the changes in Patch 7.1 will result in a better overall experience for everyone.

Unleashed Monstrosities: A Look at World Bosses
Each week on the Broken Isles, one of 11 monstrous world bosses will appear with the weekly reset to terrorize the land. These bosses will show as a World Quest for those who have reached level 110 and unlocked them, but the encounter can be undertaken by anyone adventuring across the Broken Isles. It’s going to take a little teamwork, though, so you’ll want to check out the Group Finder (I) to round up like-minded adventurers. Head to the Premade Groups option, then click Questing —you can either search for an exsiting group, or start your own to take on the boss.

You can learn more details about each of these bosses within the Adventure Guide (Shift-J), which provides a complete breakdown of the loot rewards, abilities, and basic strategies for tanks, healers, and damage dealers. Killing each of these 11 creatures will ultimately reward the achievement Unleashed Monstrosities—though the real reward is in helping to make the Broken Isles a safer place. (That, and getting great loot!)

Location: Felsoul Hold – Suramar

This foul imp mother rests deep within Felsoul Hold, immersed in a pool of pure fel energy. Her children swarm around her, as she soaks in the fetid air and corrupts anything that comes within her grasp.

Location: Temple of a Thousand Lights – Azsuna

A being of immense magical power, Calamir was called forth by the ancient exemplars in their howling rage. Imbused with the powers of fire, frost, and the arcane, Calamir eradicates those who dare to stand in his way.

Drugon the Frostblood
Location: Snowblind Cliffs – Highmountain

Drugon the Frostblood has terrorized the tribes of Highmountain from atop its frozen peaks for ages. Now, seeing opportunity in the chaos, this powerful ettin descends from his perch to claim the region for himself.

Location: Shipwreck Cove – Highmountain

Flotsam emerged from the ocean depths to sate his hunger. The first to cross his path were the swamp murlocs of Shipwreck Cove, which Flotsam devoured by the dozens. Despite consuming most of their tribe, these creatures worshipped the giant as a god, and continued feeding him family and friends until the beast passed out. When he awakens, Flotsam will expand his menu to include everyone within the region.

Location: Gloaming Reef – Val’sharah

Humongris has always had the dream of wielding magic. After finding he had no aptitude in the arcane arts, Humongris instead settled for wielding a wizard. Humongris sought out and captured the mage Padawsen and now wields him as a wand, using threats of violence and a tightening grip to hurl magic around the battlefield.

Location: Lithduin Reef – Azsuna

Her abyssal slumber disturbed, Levantus surfaced to find the isles teeming with strange demons. The fel magic seeping into the surrounding waters have left her in an extremely ornery mood.

Na’zak the Fiend
Location: Falanaar Tunnels – Suramar

The alpha of the Fal’dorei, this terrifying monstrosity lurks deep within the Falanaar Tunnels. As he churns through the rubble, he uncovers ley-infused stones and feeds upon their arcane energy to sustain himself, biding his time for more worthy prey.

Location: Nastrondir – Stormheim

The great dragon Nithogg was once of the Thorignir, having left the brood shortly after they swore fealty to the titan keepers. Nithogg believed that one day he would be more powerful than even the keepers, and refused to be their subject. Instead, he took up roost in the mountain Nastrondir, where he raises his brood and terrorizes the nearby lands whenever the mood strikes him.

Location: Tangled Cleft – Val’sharah

This guardian of the glades has been beset by the Nightmare’s corruption. Where once he breathed life into the woods, he now leaves a trail of decay and destruction in his wake.

The Soultakers
Location: Tomb of the Old Kings – Stormheim

Sent by Helya to raid the crypts of noble vrykul kings, this trio of raiders and their crew has found their way into the Tomb of the Old Kings and seek to claim the souls that rest there.

Withered J’im
Location: Isle of the Watchers – Azsuna

Cast out from the sanctuary of Suramar, this nightfallen wandered the coastline as his body deteriorated, and his sanity along with it. Just as he was about to lose the last vestiges of personhood, he sensed a radiating energy from a nearby cave. Within, he found a shard of power originating from the Nightwell itself. It sustains and empowers him, but also warps the flow of time and space nearby. It has broken his mind completely. Now, no one enters the cave of Withered J’im. Even fools know better.

Connecting A3ers through Discord
[col]ImageA3 is always looking for new and interesting ways to connect with its members. One of our greatest hurdles, though, is connecting members to each other. With everyone playing on different servers, different factions, and the limitations of the friends list – many of you have probably never had a chance to connect. We hope to use the Discord App to help solve that!

The major perk of an app like Discord is that communication is live. Meaning – you can see it on the fly (assuming you are logged in). This will be an advantage over the forum or twitter where you need to check in throughout the day. It will be especially helpful with organizing groups, sharing rare spawn information with others, or just getting to know your fellow A3ers!|[/col]
