It's been something of a week: coming off Thanksgiving we've been straight into the A3 Anniversary. I hope you're all having fun.
Unfortunately, over the Thanksgiving weekend some rather troublesome issues came to light. Wowhead by all accounts has been having issues with severely aggressive advertising. Over Thanksgiving, not only did this get worse, but several people noticed that constant uploads were happening to a company that was found to be their ad provider. These uploads were quite sizable, and would happen with or without an adblocker active.
While Wowhead have issued a statement about the issue now being resolved, and they will be working on better solutions for obtaining funding through advertising, we would like to remind you all to search safe. Never click on a link marked with an ad symbol, always have an adblocker active unless you know a site is safe and wish to support it. Very importantly, keep your antivirus up to date. Even better, use an antivirus alongside malware detection software.
The safety of our users while they are online is important to us, so the staff at A3 are going to be watching what Wowhead does next very carefully. Alongside this we will be researching the alternative sites that can fulfill a similar purpose to our uses.
In other happier news, Blizzard's Make-A-Wish campaign has started. This year, not only do they give us the most adorable of kittens, there is an accompanying plush, which if purchased, will donate $14 of the total cost of the plush to Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish is an amazing charity, so let's all help however we can whilst squeeing loudly at the cute.
